9 Ball League Rules
Rules of Play
  • Alternate Break. Rack your own. Race to 9.
  • If you make the 9 ball on the break it is not a win if you make it in the Racking Corners. Anywhere else is a win.
  • A legal shot is where the object ball is hit first and the cue ball or another ball hits a rail.
  • THE RACK: The 1 ball must be at the Front of the rack and the 9 ball in the center of the rack and the 2 ball at the back of the rack.
  • -- LEGAL BREAK SHOT --
  • For the break shot to be legal, the breaker (with the complete cue ball placed anywhere behind the head string) must either pocket an object ball or drive at least three (3) object balls to one or more rails. If the breaker fails to make the legal break requirement, the balls will be re-racked and the opponent shall have the option of breaking, or requesting the offending player to break again.
  • If the breaker contacts the rack anywhere other than the 1-ball, or scratches off the 1-ball, this is the first countable foul and is considered a valid break attempt.
  • If the breaker miscues and the cueball does not contact the rack, that is considered an illegal break and the opponent will have the option to let the breaker try again or the opponent can take the break.
  • The game does not start until a legal break is made (meaning the 3-foul counter does not begin with an illegal break).
  • -- PUSH OUT --
  • Push out after the break: 1- You must call a push out. 2- After the push out the incoming player has the option to play the shot or return the shot.
  • -- 3-FOUL --
  • The 3 foul rule is in effect. (3 consecutive fouls is a loss of the game.
  • Once your opponent is on TWO fouls, they must be informed and they MUST acknowledge this warning.  If the incoming player fails to alert the fouling player, a 3rd consecutive foul will not award the rack.
  • -- CLOSE HITS --
  • If you think it is going to be a close hit call someone that both players agree on to watch the hit. If nobody watches the hit and the two players cannot agree then the call goes to the shooter.
  • You are permitted and encouraged to use your phone to record the contact point of the target object ball for review if it is not obviously by either player or the person watching.
  • Cue ball fouls only. Exception is if you move a ball and the cue ball or another ball would have impacted that ball or if it crosses the path of a moving ball it is a foul. If a ball is moved and not a foul it is up to your opponent whether to move the ball back as close as possible to its original spot.
  • Any ball off the table is a foul and that ball is pocketed and its ball in hand for your opponent.
  • Any other issues will be handled as best as possible when they occur.
